The Internet has evolved considerably in the past decades. The Internet of Things is rapidly emerging: mobiles are everywhere. Soon cars, buildings, cities, and people will have sensors and software that track resources, respond to crime, or take constant vital signs. Once we’ve connected everything to everything else, safety and privacy will become big challenges. It’s impossible to stop abuse, but we have to be able to detect it. The Internet and its impact on society still have a long way to go both technologically and socially.
Bio:
Dr. Vinton Cerf is an American Internet pioneer, who is recognized as one of "the fathers of the Internet“. His contributions have been acknowledged and lauded, repeatedly, with honorary degrees and awards that include the National Medal of Technology, the Turing Award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Marconi Prize and membership in the National Academy of Engineering. Dr. Cerf is active in many organizations that are working to help the Internet deliver humanitarian value in our world today. He is supportive of innovative projects that are experimenting with new approaches to global problems, including the digital divide, the gender gap, and the changing nature of jobs.
